  3. I am a new knitter, and I wanted to make a hat that my husband would actually wear. I think this pattern is perfect for his style and it looks easy for me! The thing is that I am on a limited budget and I only have US#8 round needles and my yarn that I just got on sale is 50g and 95m. I have 2 of different colors so i could combine them, but i still don't know if it will be long enough since my needles are bigger than the ones you used. Also, the number of stitches would be differnt as well, wouldn't they? Would you be willing to help me out with this dilema please?

    Yours sincerely,

  4. Hi! I understand your problem. I did make a hat with ear flaps recently, but I wasn't pleased with the result (to feminine). But I'll make a new hat for my boyfriend, but ofcourse that will take a while. And also, the hat I knitted on 7 mm needles, so that would be to big again. I think the best you could do is recalculate all stitches and decreases to 5 mm needles (US#8). For this you first should can best test the gauge by making a little test knit square so you can count the stitches and rows per centimeter and compare this with the gauge of this pattern en adapt. I don't think there will be much of difference actually, sinds the needle sizes aren't that much different. Good luck!

  5. hey there! i really like this hat! problem is, my head is a bit bigger than yours & im new to knitting (which might be the actual problem in fact ;). my head measures 60 cm around & 20 cm from ear to top. do you think its necessary to cast on more stitches and/or add some rows so that the hat wont sit too tight?
    thanks! :)

  6. I think it wouldn't hurt to add a few stitches in that case. And you could also try on the hat a few times when you are knitting the straight part, i.e. before you strat decreasing. I that way, your hat will always be long enough

  7. All I have at the moment are DPNs (no circulars yet)... could I use them from the outset?

  8. Hi Ruth... For almost all projects that suggest the use of circular needles you can also use double pointed onces in the same size. Also for this one!

  9. Hello! I would really like to knit this hat, but unfortunately I am not familiar with the notations. I would be so grateful if you could shortly explain to me how to read K18, K2T and son on. Thank you! :)

  10. Hi! K=knit and K2T = Knit 2 together. But I would like to refer you the PDF version of this pattern. It's available on ravelry and it is also free. All abbreviations are in there!

  11. I usually knit scarves and blankets. This is my first time knitting in the round.

question 1- do I absolutley need the double pointed needls?

question 2- after the first 25 stitches of k2,p2 do I do 40 stitches of every 1/9 or 2/9 after that or do I do the whole patter of "9" until it equals 40 stitches?

  12. Hi! To knitting a hat in the round, you can also use a circular needle. However, when you have only a couple of stitches left near the top of the hat, it is hard to slip them over the circular needle.
By 1/9 I meant that there are 9 rounds in which stitches are diminished (round1 to 9). 1/9 just means round 1 out of 9 rounds. At the end of round 9 there should be 44 stitches left.

  16. Hi! Yes, it is possible to knit the hat in flat, but keep in mind that you need to convert the wrong side rows of the pattern. If it says knit, purl and vice versa.
