  1. OK.
I'm a guy and i don't know anything about knitting, but I'm going to try to mcake these for my grand-daughter.
I am confused. The directions say: "The 4 lines above form 1 segment of the leg warmer. This pattern will be repeated 12 times to build up the whole patterned part of the leg warmer"??
There are either 3 lines (different patterns) or 12 lines, (with repeats)??

    1. The "4 lines" are the pattern (when you have completed 4 lines, you have completed the initial design) repeat these 4 lines 12 times so as to make the desired length of the leg warmer before you do the final ribbing edge.

  2. Hi John,

I'm reading the pattern again now, and indeed it is a little confusing. The part from line1 to line12 is okay. Then it should say Repeat line9-12 12 times. Then you arrive at line 61-68 which are stated in the pattern. I'll change this right away. Thanks for using one of my patterns!

  3. I LOVE your patterns!! Is the Winter Simplicity Legwarmers knit "in the round"? or just on circular needles? It never says to "join"

    Thanks so much!

  4. Hi Becky. Thanks! Yes the pattern is knitted in the round on circular needles. I hadn't considered the fact that you can also knit flat with circular needles ;)

  5. I can't get this pattern to work. I must be using the wrong circular needles beacuse I can't get it to fit nicely. Could it be done with DPNs?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hi Carolyn. You can certainly try DPNs for this pattern. Hope it works out then!

  8. I need help! I want to make a matching pair of these for a friend and myself, but I just don't get it. Is the whole leg warmer ribbing? Sorry to be so ignorant, but I am just branching out of simple garter and stockinette stitches. Sorry. I made a mistake on the other post. I have another question... can these be easily worn at a dance class?

  9. Hi Megan. The leg warmers are not completely in rib stitch, onlye the edgings are. The rest is knitted in seed stitch, which is also just a alternation of knits and purls.

And your other question,... I don't know. I don't dance myself. What features should dancing leg warmers have? These are elasting, so I think they will stay on ( I only wear them in my boots when its really cold actually). They are quite warm however, you might want to use thinner yarn? Or are dancing leg warmers supposed to be warm?

  10. Oh, and there is a pattern for the pencil case. It's a crochet pattern, and it is available through ravelry. It's over here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pink-n-gray-pencil-case

  11. Thanks sooo much! Is seed stitch hard for beginners?
Dance leg warmers need to be warm, yes because in the winter and sometimes fall it is cold and on our legs is only tights so it is cold. They have to stay up, yes, and they have to be stylish, of course! ;) which yours are

  12. Also, just to clarify? Lines 13-60 are alternating by row or by group in the pattern of K2 P2, P2 K2 (does that make sense?)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hi again. No seed stitch is not hard, as long as you know how to do knits and purls, you can do it. Good luck!

And the middle part of the leg warmers are alternating K2, P2.

  15. does this work with 4 needles

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thanks so much for sharing this. I have just picked up knit and doing a little bit of purl. I hope this will be my first project to work on rib stitch. :)

  17. Hi Lily. You can also use 4 double pointed needles, as long as they are 7 mm needles. I always try to use circular needles because I think it is more comfortable to knit with.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi, can i use 6mm pointed needles?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi! You can always convert the pattern to an other needle size. I usually just increase the amount of stitches. If you go from needle size 7 to size you need 7/6 * the original amount of stitches.

For example: If you have 12 stitches in the original pattern for 7 mm needles, you will need to have 7/6* 12 = 14 stitches for the 6 mm needles.

  20. This pattern is very confusing and i have been knitting for a long time. You need to write your pattern in rows not lines. Example: Row 1, K2, P2 repeat until end of row. Row 2 through Row 6, repeat row 1. I would like to knit these leg warmers but don't want to take the time to figure out the pattern.

  21. Pretty pattern, but it's written in a very confusing way. I was looking for a simple and relaxing project for a snowy day. Don't know if I have the patience to figure it out and then rewrite so project can move along smoothly without constantly stopping to figure out what comes next. Just saying...

    ReplyDelete
  22. OK - I like your pattern so much I did take the time to rewrite simply for myself. I hope this is right :)

    Cast on 28 stitches

    Top Border
    Row 1: *K2,P2*, repeat * * to end
    Row 2-8: repeat Row 1

    Pattern
    Row 9: *K2,P2*, repeat * * to end
    Row 10: repeat Row 9
    Row 11: *P2, K2*, repeat * * to end
    Row 12: repeat Row 11

    Body of leg warmer
Row 13-60: repeat Pattern Row 9-12 (12 times)

    Bottom Border
    Row 61-68: repeat Row 1

  23. Hi! Thanks for your comment. I always write in my pattern how many repeats are in a row, because it is easier when you need to keep track of stitch count in more complex projects.
That's also why I divided the pattern into the rib border, body and rib border.
I actually had no complaints of pattern testers on this pattern or others regarding this... But anyway, thanks for using my pattern ;)

  24. Hi,
I started this pattern, and realized it is tiny! I love the concept but I think I am going to have to up the stitches around for my sister. She is an "averaged" sized woman. Could I suggest putting in size adjustments. Or maybe I just knit too tightly and need to loosen up :). Just increase by sets of 4 right?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi! I checked the ones I made, and I have the same amount of repeats as stated. Are you using the same size needles? Because there is no alternative US size for 7 mm needles. If you are using the correct needle size, I'dd add some more repeats. My leg warmers can be easily worn over a pair of pants. Hope this helps.

    1. Knitting Girl. When you answer someone's question, wouldn't it be better to post it as a reply to their post rather than a separate post from you? You tend not to mention who you are answering in your posts.

  27. I was looking online, and saw this pattern. I'm looking to make my sis a pair of these for christmas. Hope they come out ok. Also, i think it came out tiny for Anonymous was because she may of been using size 7 needles instead of size 10 1/2.

  28. How would you use this pattern for A 3year old. How many stitches would this be? and can you write out A pattern for this size? Thanks Rozella

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Rozella,

I don't have kids myself (yet ;)), so for me it is hard to estimate how large the size should be. I would make a swatch and based on that pick an amount of stitches that will give to a snug, but not too tight fit for the leg warmers. And they should be shorter, but that's easily tested while knitting by trying them on. Happy knitting!

  29. How do I get the free download of the leg warmer pattern? I don't want to download that PDF Creator.

    1. Hi! To my knowledge, you don't need PDF creator to download my patterns. You can just click the globe below the pattern description to download. If you have a ravelry account, you can also download it via ravelry.

  31. I really like the way this pattern looks and I might adjust it to knit my granddaughter a pair.

There was no need for the anonymous poster to criticize the way you wrote the pattern, by the way, it's fine as it is. If they've been knitting for a long time then they should have known what was meant by 'line 1'. It's common sense, really.

I've been knitting for over 40 years, off and on, and a pattern would have to be really wonky for me to get confused by it.

    1. Hi Chatty! Thank you. I'm happy you like the pattern. Indeed, it is hard to make the pattern right for everyone. Some knitters like charts, some like whole written patterns and some just want short explanations... So I do my best to make things clear. But I'm happy that you like my work :).

      Happy Knitting!

  32. I'm not sure I understand the tern knitting in the round. What is that & how is it done?? (newbie to knitting)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Anonymous, when you knit in the round you use a circular needle or a set of double point needles. You cast on stitches and then join them together. From there you begin knitting in a circle, there are no seams and no turning your work.

  36. hey this pattern seems really small. I started to knit according to your pattern and casted on 28 sts. but then i realized how tiny it was! so i doubled the cast ons-56. now im realizing its huge! frustrating...So i will try the 28 sts again...but can you just give me the assurance that its going to stretch and fit my leg?? i really like your pattern and would love to make these! thank you. -H
